Cool Tools Episode 27 Screencast: Yahoo! Pipes

The Screencast here takes the RSS feeds from the blogs of five LIBR 246 students, and creates one source of updating information. These are simple "mash-up" basics. Yahoo! Pipes allows way deeper use than just that, but these are the baby steps ... to get walking with. A sort filter is added to the demonstration, just to get some of the local flavor.

Cool demo Scott! And very useful for this week's assignment!

How timely, Scott, as we need to create a mashup of RSS feeds and Yahoo! Pipes makes this easy to do.

Pure coincidence, that. When I signed up for the date I was not really looking ahead ... it just worked out the way it did.

Also, I know this is hecka long, and that's a no-no. I wanted to be able to do everything I did.

I wonder if I could leave it alone for a few days so the information is up there, and then maybe replace this video with a shorter version.

I also had MAJOR problems keeping my screencast under 3 minutes. I swear, I tried and tried and tried, to no avail. I ended up at about 3 1/2 minutes. I personally don't find your screencast to be too long at all...

Yay! My blog made the cut. I kept hoping and hoping each time you typed in a directory name. ;D
Thanks for this great screencast. When do we get part 2 and 3 of making pipes? just wishful thinking on my part...

This was a great introduction to Yahoo Pipes - thanks for doing this one!

As for the length, I found my screencast impossible to cut down to 3 minutes. I think 5 minutes should be the limit for screencasts and 3 minutes should be the limit for podcasts. That's just my opinion of course...

Hi Scott,
Thanks for your timely post. It helped me with the assignment. I really like Yahoo's interface with the workspace and I especially like connecting the pipes to the boxes.
